Mace picks up appointment with Peel Ports Group

Mace, the international consultancy and construction company, has secured another major appointment in the ports sector. Peel Ports Group Ltd (PPG), which owns and operates six of the UK’s most important ports , as well as a container terminal in Dublin, has added Mace as a new supplier to its Project Management & Quantity Surveying Services Framework at a time when both companies are doubling down on their ambitious carbon reduction targets.

The new appointment will see Mace’s Consult arm provide professional services, such as project and commercial management, across a multimillion-pound sustainable infrastructure programme over the next eight years.

PPG already handles over 65 million tonnes of cargo and, with £200million of planned spend on sustainable infrastructure in the next twelve months alone, Mace’s ports team will play a key role in delivering infrastructure improvements to enhance PPG’s customer offering at its UK and Ireland sites.

Mace joins PPG’s list of trusted suppliers at a time when both firms are working hard to reduce carbon emissions and tackle the climate emergency. Mace, which recently set an ambitious target of helping its clients to save 10 million tonnes of carbon as part of its responsible business plan, will help drive PPG’s commitment to become carbon neutral by 2040.

The PPG appointment is Mace’s second in the ports sector in the first quarter of 2023. In February, Associated British Ports (ABP) chose Mace from its list of professional services suppliers to deliver work at five sites across the UK. The double appointment further bolsters Mace’s presence in the sector, building on a leading role in driving the national Freeports agenda and major programmes of work at sites including Hull and Plymouth.

Sean Gray, Director of Transportation, Mace Consult, said:

“As a new entrant onto the framework, we’re looking forward to bringing original ideas, experience and capabilities to PPG’s exciting programme of investment over the next eight years.

“Ports blend local benefits with global growth; add ambitious carbon reduction targets and an intelligent approach to infrastructure improvement, the legacy potential of this programme is clear. We can’t wait to begin delivering on the ground.”

Lewis McIntyre, Managing Director - Port Services, Peel Ports Group, said:

“Mace’s global track record in delivering major infrastructure programmes across a range of sectors makes them an excellent addition to our supplier framework. As well as the technical experience and expertise Mace’s people will bring shared values on important topics like carbon reduction and legacy will only help us as we deliver our multimillion-pound investment programme.”
