We have been working in South Africa since 2009, delivering some of the country's most significant and inspiring projects. From hotels to offices, residential towers to world-class museums, our team is redefining the South African property landscape.
We have a growing team in South Africa, who have a wealth of experience and expertise spanning the breadth of the built environment. We coordinate and oversee all our operations in Sub-Saharan Africa from our Johannesburg hub office.
Our South Africa team is managing various projects including Barclays Branch Footprint and office consolidation projects across Sub-Saharan Africa, fit out projects for Allen & Overy, Microsoft, Deutsche Bank, Roche and HSF and property development projects for UNIRES and Propertuity. Our long-standing relationship with the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town has led to a succession of ongoing projects including a new luxury hotel in Silo 6.
Our team also offers bespoke construction delivery and cost consultancy services, exclusive to the South African market, in a direct response to market and client demands.
Responding to client and market needs
Having worked successfully for a number of years as project and construction managers for global corporate clients on commercial office and retail fit out schemes in South Africa, we identified an area of the market severely lacking an effective delivery solution. As consultants, we adopt a very hands-on approach to all our projects, none more so than those within the office and retail environments, where high-quality finishes and tight programmes place huge demands on the delivery teams.
We therefore found ourselves spending increasing man hours managing the supply chain to achieve the quality standards and expectations demanded by our clients. With this in mind we began searching for an alternative delivery solution to provide clients with a one-stop service in this sector.
Design and build/turnkey service
In response to the market opportunity and following requests from existing clients, we launched our contracting service offer in South Africa to provide design and build/turnkey solutions to our clients, primarily focusing on the commercial and retail sector.
This service has the capability to offer contracting solutions on both a programme and individual project basis and is already delivering a major turnkey programme for one of our key banking clients across the country. With our focus on quality and health and safety, we are growing our contracting offer to deliver high-end solutions of all sizes to our global clients.
Effective management of the supply chain
We have also established our supply chain management service for the Sub-Saharan Africa region. The establishment of the system, building new supply chain relationships and gathering market intelligence, are all integral to the success of our construction projects. This allows us to leverage our collective buying power and use Mace's established global supply chain. In doing so we are equipped to provide effective procurement solutions and tangible benefits to the wider region, stakeholders and clients.
MMQSMace cost consultancy
In response to South African market demand, in 2013 expert quantity surveyors MMQS and Mace started working together, winning appointments in the infrastructure sector as MMQSMace. By combining local cost management experience and market knowledge with international expertise and additional services such as project and programme management, we are providing a unique capability to our clients.
Since then, we have worked together for clients on many occasions and it was a natural progression in 2016 to formally join the Mace Sub-Saharan Africa cost consultancy and MMQS teams in order to create and exploit synergies, increase market share and strengthen the core business of both companies.
The expanded MMQSMace team now operates across a range of sectors for clients including infrastructure, residential, financial services and fit out.
