Mace supports the Government of Jersey to secure planning on Our Hospital Project

Mace, the international consultancy and construction company, has worked closely with the Government of Jersey and their Design Delivery Partner on the planning application that has now received approval from the Minister for the Environment for the £804m Our Hospital Project.

The Our Hospital Project’s planning application has received conditional approval from the Minister for the Environment, Deputy John Young, who announced his decision following a clear recommendation by the planning inspector which concluded the Public Inquiry.

With this approval, the Government of Jersey plans to construct a new hospital and associated buildings - including mental health centre, energy centre, knowledge centre, multi-storey car park, surface level parking and landscaping. This is a significant step forward for the project and is an accumulation of ten years of effort by the Government of Jersey

Mace was appointed by the Government of Jersey in 2019 to provide PMO services to the project, manage the procurement of the Design and Delivery Partner (DDP) and is the NEC Project Manager for the Pre-Construction Services Agreement.

The Government of Jersey have already approved the £804.5m funding for the project, and the scheme will now move into the delivery phase of the project, with the hospital due to be complete and operational by December 2026.

Mace’s strong track record of working closely with healthcare clients to meet their project ambitions; Mace has recently worked with the Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Guys & St Thomas Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to successfully achieve planning permission for the £340m new build expansion. Mace has also brought its comprehensive experience in delivering UK healthcare construction projects, from the award-winning delivery of the new Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital for UCLH, to providing project management services for Africa’s biggest hospital, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital to benefit the Our Hospital Project delivery.

Colin Harvey, Director for UK Health & Education at Mace, said:

“This is a fantastic milestone for the project and a testament to the hard work of the Mace team, working with the client and stakeholders through the Public Inquiry. We can now move into the next phase of the project and deliver a first-class hospital for the local community in Jersey.”

Senator Lyndon Farnham, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport, and Culture, said:

“I welcome the decision to approve the hospital planning application. This now clears the way for the next phase of the project to build the hospital and deliver it on time and within budget to be fully operational by December 2026.”
