King’s Birthday Honours awards Mark Holmes CBE
We are pleased to share that our former Deputy Chairman of Mace Group, Mark Holmes has been named in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours List as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for his services to construction and highlighted specifically for his former role as Co-Chair of Infrastructure Exports UK.
Mark Reynolds, Mace Group Executive Chairman, said:
“Mark’s experience and commitment helped Mace become the success story it is today, and I’m delighted that his long service to the construction industry has been acknowledged in this year’s Birthday Honours.
“Mark dedicated 31 years to the Group and had a positive influence on so many careers. With Mace now employing over 8,000 people across the globe, Mark’s impact is still having an influence on projects which are changing people’s lives for the better”.
Mark joined Mace as the firm’s 30th employee in 1992 and over the past three decades played a pivotal role in the Group’s organic growth, launching new businesses and service lines.
These included Mace’s cost and commercial service, its North American business, the Group’s entry into the public sector, launching Mace Operate, a global facilities management provider; and being heavily involved in setting up Mace’s graduate and talent development programmes. He also played a key role in helping develop our EDI and sustainability strategies.
Honoured for services to construction, Mark’s work with IE:UK as Co-Chair involved playing a significant role working with the UK's Department of Business and Trade and various Ministers both here and overseas to promote UK businesses on the world stage to deliver international projects.
Mark Holmes CBE, Mace Foundation, Chief Executive, says:
“I certainly didn't enter this great industry of ours to seek recognition, in fact I have tried to avoid it most of the time. So when others think you are worthy of such recognition then I am immensely humbled and proud to be honoured in this way.
“This industry has given me a fulfilling and rewarding career and Mace has given me the platform to make a difference and hopefully wherever I worked I left a positive legacy and influence on the people I have worked with.”
Mark's career with Mace has continued with his role as the Chief Executive of the Mace Foundation, which since 2011 has donated £10m to charitable causes around the world, as well as maintaining his shareholding in the Group.
Outside of his work at Mace, he is also Chair of Macro, a global facilities management and workspace services company, which evolved from Mace Operate following a management buy-out in 2023.
He is also a Trustee of the Edward Gosling Foundation a charity specialising in helping those people on low incomes living with long term illnesses or disabilities have better lives.
