Mace Consult appointed to support on Northern Powerhouse Rail on Leeds–Sheffield corridor
Leading global delivery consultancy, Mace Consult, has been appointed to support global infrastructure company and lead contractor Amey in the early development of the Leeds–Sheffield corridor as part of the Northern Powerhouse Rail programme.
Working as a subcontractor to Amey, Mace Consult is supporting the programme by providing engineering and planning in the early development of this strategically significant corridor. This includes integrating technical and planning activity, shaping and testing options, and establishing the governance and insight needed to support robust, deliverable decision making as the programme progresses.
The work will support the early development of the Leeds-Sheffield route by managing integration across a complex programme, providing the leadership and insight needed to support robust decision making and bring greater certainty to outcomes that will deliver long term value for passengers, communities and the regional economy.
The route forms a critical part of the Northern Powerhouse Rail programme, which aims to transform east–west connectivity across the North of England by improving capacity, reliability and journey times between major cities, helping businesses access wider labour markets, supporting productivity and enabling investment across the region.
Martyn Court, Mobility Lead for Europe at Mace Consult, said:
“The Leeds–Sheffield corridor is a complex, strategically important part of Northern Powerhouse Rail, and the decisions taken now will set the trajectory for years to come. Our role is to help bring clarity at this early stage, integrating technical, planning and operational considerations so the programme can move forward with confidence.
“We are pleased to be working with Amey to support the development of the Leeds–Sheffield corridor for Network Rail, helping to progress a scheme that will deliver lasting benefits for passengers, communities and the wider regional economy.”
The work builds on Mace Consult’s strong track record supporting complex rail and transport programmes across the UK, including its appointment to Network Rail’s Development and Design Framework in a subcontractor role to Amey, and reflects its continued focus on collaborative delivery across major infrastructure programmes.
