Mace Construct set to deliver landmark refurbishment of former London City Hall

Mace Construct, one of the UK’s leading contractors, has been appointed by St Martin’s Property Group to deliver the landmark redevelopment of London’s former City Hall at More London, transforming the iconic riverside building into a modern, sustainable workplace while enhancing the surrounding public realm.

Mace Construct will commence works this July on the redevelopment of London’s former City Hall, 110 Queen’s Walk. Appointed by St Martin’s Property Group, the team will reimagine and expand the building from 18,000 to 22,000 sq m, transforming it into a modern, sustainable workplace for the future. 

Located on the iconic More London Estate, sitting adjacent to Tower Bridge and overlooking the Thames, the building lies at the heart of one of London’s most recognisable commercial and cultural destinations. Originally delivered by Mace as part of the wider More London development in July 2002, the firm’s return to the site marks a significant milestone in the estate’s evolution. 

Over the past three years, St Martin’s Property Group has been exploring how best to bring the building back into use. Understanding its importance to the London skyline and the significance of its recent past, the proposal will retain the building’s fundamental character. Its circular footprint and curved silhouette will remain, while reimagining it as an open, mixed-use accommodation that offers a destination for both locals and visitors to London Bridge’s Queen’s Walk. 

The refurbishment will include full replacement of the cladding and glazing, new terraces, enhancements to the roofscape, and infilling of the atrium. The building will be fully fitted out to shell and core with new MEP systems and modern end-of-trip facilities. Public realm improvements will enhance The Scoop amphitheatre, surrounding green space, and the southern bank of the river.
