Mace Consult supported the NDA in the co-ordination and delivery of energy efficiency projects across its estate. The purpose of this work was to provide the NDA with a clear basis for targeting future investigations, ensuring that on-site resources are directed where they can deliver the greatest impact. The key outcome of this work together was the development and submission of an Energy Demand and Optimisation Report that provided priority opportunities for energy and carbon reduction.
Our team identified and prioritised opportunities from each of the Operating Companies (OpCos). A structured down-selection process was undertaken involving a series of workshops through which projects were assessed against a set of critical success factors. Mace undertook significant data analysis which was focused on cost-effectiveness and carbon reduction potential. This approach enabled the identification of key energy efficiency initiatives across the estate which were then actioned by the OpCos.
A significant finding from the analysis, was that ventilation systems account for approximately 75% of electricity consumption across sites, greatly improving NDAs depth and accuracy of understanding. As a result, the recommended priority areas included steam system optimisation, ventilation upgrades, fleet management, off-site accommodation optimisation and heat decarbonisation.
As a result of our partnership the project was shortlisted for two major industry awards: Net Zero Strategy of the Year at the Green Business Awards, and Sustainability Project of the Year from the Projects Control Expo.
