How Mace Consult is helping to industrialise healthcare delivery in the UK
The UK’s New Hospital Programme (NHP), a once-in-a generation £50bn-plus scheme that aims to build over 40 new hospitals, is one of the largest mega-programmes being undertaken in Europe.
Mace Consult, alongside Turner & Townsend, are leading the delivery consortium as Programme Delivery Partners, and Kristina Smith writing for Construction Management recently spoke to leads about their revolutionary new processes to save time and fit within funding constraints.
Interviewing Darren Colderwood, Mace’s programme director, Darren Laybourn from Turner & Townsend and Doug Baldock at NHP, the article centres on the approach, being dubbed Hospital 2.0, which represents a new way of working, using a more collaborative model.
Drawing on aspects of Mace’s The Future of Major Programme Delivery report, it highlights the focus on outcomes, the sharing of risk and reward, and looks at solutions to address supply chain and skills related challenges to completing projects.
Colderwood says, “The commercial model has been set up in order to make it attractive, to balance risks sensibly; that’s a big factor in getting this up and running.”
