Mace completes One Crown Place skyscraper

Mace, the global consultancy and construction company, has completed One Crown Place, the latest landmark in London, on behalf of clients MTD Group and CBRE.

The development will deliver a total of 246 private apartments and a fully restored Georgian terrace which is being transformed into a 41-room luxury boutique hotel and 140,000 sq ft of premium office space.

Composed of concrete and glass with deep steel trusses at the base, the façade of the adjacent 28- and 34-storey towers is made up of glazed terracotta. The design artfully combines original heritage buildings with striking modern architecture from Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF).

Mace has used modern methods of construction and the latest technology to deliver One Crown Place. Working together with 3D visualisation start-up, Disperse, the team has visually tracked construction progress while using data to address inefficiencies, redefining the boundaries of delivery.

Mace has delivered One Crown Place as a BREEAM Excellent rated project. This was achieved through high performance glazing to control solar gain and heat loss, energy efficient lighting and daylight sensors.

Global property firm CBRE were appointed by MTD Group in 2015 to act as both development manager and project manager to market the site’s 246 private apartments and 140,000 sq ft of commercial space.

Gareth Lewis, CEO for Construct at Mace, said:

“Working alongside MTD Group whose leadership and vision was vital for the landmark scheme’s success, we strived for an innovative approach to deliver One Crown Place. Redefining the boundaries of construction delivery, our team used new digital tools and cutting-edge structural steel installation as part of our delivery strategy. This project represented a complex construction challenge; and I’m very proud that our hard work has delivered such an iconic new skyscraper for London.”

MTD Group Head of International Real Estate & Properties and Director of AMTD London Development Co Ltd, Tee Kim Siew, said:

“We are proud to announce the practical completion of this iconic mixed-use development in Central London. This is a major milestone for MTD Group and we would like to thank the Mace team as well as the One Crown Place Project team for exceeding our expectations and delivering our vision for the landmark scheme to the highest standards ahead of schedule. This is an incredible achievement in the current circumstances and one that is borne out of the benefits of “One Team” culture. With One Crown Place, we’ve brought a new vibrant destination to life, creating a new live-work hub in an enviable location that is not just Monday-Friday, nine-to-five. We look forward to introducing One Crown Place to the Capital.”

Henry Robinson, Executive Director, Head of Development Management UK at CBRE, said:

“Together with MTD Group, we are thrilled One Crown Place has reached completion. MTD Group placed a huge amount of trust in their UK team and this flowed through all elements of the project from designers to suppliers to build this new vibrant, premium destination for London. To do this during a worldwide pandemic and ahead of our delivery target, was a tribute to everyone that was involved, especially the supply chain on site.”

John Bushell, Design Principal, Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, said:

“One Crown Place is a testament to collaboration and the combined efforts of an incredibly strong team. MTD Group were totally committed to the vision of a mixed-use development that will become a new destination on the edge of the City. We are incredibly proud to have played a part in shaping that vision into this landmark building, with practical completion delivered in exemplary fashion by Mace.”
