Mace was appointed by V&A Waterfront Holdings to provide project management for The Ridge – a pioneering sustainable commercial development in Cape Town’s iconic waterfront district.

Designed to serve as Deloitte’s Cape Town head office, the 8,500m² building sets a new standard for sustainable design and workplace innovation.

The Ridge comprises four levels of office space arranged around a central atrium ‘street’, fostering collaboration and natural light throughout. Two basement levels, shared with the adjacent Merchant House, provide 215 parking bays and are naturally ventilated – a key feature in the building’s sustainability strategy.

The project achieved a 6-star Green Star Design rating from the Green Building Council of South Africa and won a Gold WAN Award for Best Sustainable Building.

Its standout features include a zigzag timber façade, Thermally Activated Building System (TABS) cooling, and natural ventilation for up to 80% of the year – all contributing to occupant comfort and reduced environmental impact.

Working closely with Studio MAS, Arup, and Paragon Interface, Mace ensured seamless coordination and delivery of this world-class development. The Ridge exemplifies Mace’s commitment to delivering high-performance, eco-conscious buildings that enhance wellbeing and set global benchmarks for sustainable commercial design.
