The 50,000 sq m Salisbury Square Development, funded by the City of London Corporation, aims to revolutionise the City’s judicial system law enforcement landscape.
Featuring the City of London Law Courts new 18-courtroom facility and ten-storey headquarters for the City of London Police, with three basement levels. The development also includes an eight-storey Grade A commercial building and the preservation of a Grade II listed building transformed for use as a public house.
In total, the project aims to generate 2,100 jobs in justice, policing, and commercial sectors, as well as 150 construction jobs and 80 supply chain jobs, impacting a countless number of people and boosting the local economy.
As main contractor, we have leveraged our experience gathered over decades of delivering London landmarks to maximise sustainability, resilience, and programme efficiency. Early supply chain engagement ensured materials for a 125-year lifespan. What’s more, the buildings will be off the gas grid, using standalone closed-loop cooling and heating from sixty 250-metre-deep geothermal boreholes, reducing operational carbon. Further sustainable measures include rainwater harvesting and solar PV installations.
The delivery team will also implement an innovative slipform technique. Used on a large scale, this will enhance productivity, safety, and cost-efficiency by enabling continuous construction. Alongside this, we are utilising a variety of off-site construction methods to improve carbon and programme.
The Grade II listed building, where the first edition of the Sunday Times was edited in 1822, will be preserved, to maintain its history, as well as reduce waste and carbon emissions.
We are committed to driving to social value through the development providing young women in the area experience in construction during their half-term break.
In July 2024, the project achieved a perfect score on the Considerate Constructors Scheme for excellence in carbon management and safety innovations.
