A platform for regeneration

  • A part of a £8bn wider regeneration of region creating 6,700 new homes, 25,000 jobs, and 3million sq ft of office space.
  • Overbridge installation means two communities that have been severed for over 150 years are now conveniently connected.
  • Effective planning allowed us to overcome logistical challenges with ease, delivering nearly 700 tonnes of steel in a live rail environment.

Transforming rail travel and sparking regeneration, Mace, in partnership with Barnet Council, has project managed the creation of London’s first new train station in over a decade. Brent Cross West Station, situated on the Midland Main Line, features four platforms and connects to central London in just 12 minutes. This 7,000 sq meter station is part of an £8 billion regeneration plan, providing 6,700 new homes, generating 25,000 jobs, and offering 3 million sq ft of office space.

The station serves as a major gateway to a new business and innovation district, linking Brent Cross Town to the Knowledge Quarter in King’s Cross and the Oxford-Cambridge Arc. The connection to the Midlands further boosts the region’s economy, showcasing how transport infrastructure can drive regeneration and growth.

Overcoming challenges in a live rail environment, Mace and its partners laid over 10 km of new track, delivered 700 tonnes of steel, and coordinated works around operational rail assets. Collaboration was key, with Mace facilitating communication and setting expectations among multiple parties, including Network Rail and various supply chain partners.

By leveraging long-standing relationships in the rail sector, Mace fostered a one-team culture, ensuring consistency, quality, and safety. As project manager, Mace acted as the eyes and ears for Barnet Council, promoting collaboration and innovation throughout the project. Brent Cross West Station stands as a testament to effective project management and the transformative power of infrastructure development.
