The site compliance assistant is responsible for ensuring that the contractors and consultants working on the construction site will comply with the nuclear site licence, planning permission and lease obligations, identifying shortcoming and providing guidance on these areas (ad-hoc onsite).

The site nuclear compliance team works closely with other teams on site, the compliance assistant is accountable to the site nuclear compliance manager for the development and implementation of the arrangements to monitor compliance with the nuclear site licence (NSL), planning obligations and lease restrictions and obligations.

The majority of the working week will be spent on site at Bridgwater in Somerset, there will be some need to travel to other locations such as Bristol or London.

There will be a requirement to work alongside contractors to ensure the compliance monitoring arrangements are developed such that they are appropriate and proportionate, and that areas for improvement identified from the compliance monitoring are completed by the contractors in a timely manner.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing written and verbal advice on compliance with the NSL, planning obligations and lease restrictions and obligations for site to the rest of the construction teams and delivery partners.
  • Maintaining the procedures related to planning obligations and leases.
  • Reviewing and commenting on contractors schedules and management plans on behalf of the site nuclear compliance team against the NSL, planning permission and lease obligations, to ensure continued compliance with our obligations.
  • Facilitating the self-assessment and internal audit of site activities to ensure compliance against the NSL, planning permission and lease obligations.
  • Engaging in a programme of education to ensure that adjacent facilities, future contract partners and NNB staff understand their obligations to comply with the NSL, planning and lease obligations.
  • Authorising compliance arrangements and deliver compliance monitoring on main site against these arrangements with the NSL, planning permission and lease obligations
  • Engaging in effective communication between all relevant internal and external stakeholders, including delivery partners, in ensuring that the above requirements are clearly understood and complied with. This may involve delivering contract specific awareness briefings when a new contractor is being mobilised to site, or providing and delivering specific topic-related briefs following the identification of specific shortfalls.
  • Producing progress reporting for the department which is subsequently presented to the construction director and onward.
About you

  • With qualification in a Science or engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an engineering environment.
  • Previous experience of dealing with multiple stakeholders.
  • Previous experience of working on a large construction project preferably within the nuclear industry.
  • Experience of working with and developing good relationships with the planning authorities and contract partners.
  • Ability to work independently and be proactive.
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills at all levels.
