The role

Senior Urban Designer


Mace Design are recruiting for an experienced/senior urban designer to join their rapidly growing business. You will be part of a recently formed urban design and master planning team and will be involved in its future direction and growth.

Will be exposed to a wide variety of projects and clients and will have the opportunity to be seen as a disrupter and thought leader in the industry.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working under the head of urban design and taking control of a section of a very large project of work across a framework of projects.
  • Providing role specific technical expertise in urban design and act as focal point for all technical design related matters on projects or delegate such responsibility to project based design manager.
  • Seeking out innovative ways of working and identifying research to expand the body of knowledge in the industry.
  • Assisting in the work winning process by providing technical support to the Mace bid team and where requested fulfil the role of bid lead.
  • Managing multiple smaller projects (with or without project based project management).
  • Assisting the head of urban design and the design director in the implementation of continuous improvement programmes.
  • Interfacing with design teams/designers both within and outside of a specific projects structure.
  • Interfacing with third parties including statutory approving bodies on design related matters.
The requirements

Your experience, knowledge and skills need to include:


  • Minimum of 5 years of urban design/master planning experience.
  • A creative team player and open to sharing ideas.
  • Excellent time management and prioritising skills.
  • Excellent drawing and graphic skills with the ability to produce diagrams, design reports and presentations
  • Knowledge of UK design standards and the planning system.
  • Extensive proven experience in delivering projects at various scales.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Good time management and prioritising skills.
  • Strong CAD/REVIT/Adobe (Photoshop and Illustrator) skills.
Qualifications

  • Postgraduate degree in urban design or relevant qualification.
