Sustainability Consultancy

Our goal at Mace is to assist our clients as they transition to truly sustainable business activities. We help to turn responsible business practice into a real commodity that results in competitive advantage and financial reward.

At Mace we believe sustainability is the responsibility of all our employees and through our collaborative partnerships with business partners, suppliers and the community we continually strive to build sustainable advantage for our clients.

Our services address and improve sustainability across the whole business and building lifecycle. We engage with and advise our clients from when a building or programme is still a concept through to operational optimisation. This ensures our turn key sustainability solutions leverage the greatest financial benefit, minimises environmental impacts and supports our worldwide community.

Our approach is applied to bespoke programmes developed from ten specific areas:

Waste

We seek to optimise opportunities to design out waste and reuse and recycle materials as well as develop mitigation methodology ranging from office operation to stand alone waste to energy plants.

Materials

We create and enforce material strategies, policies and programmes based on current best practice, and encourage the use of prefabricated, secondary and ethically sourced materials, ensuring alternatives are found to high-impact or harmful materials and substances.

Community

Our regeneration team works with international government, private and public sector organisations to engage and upskill local people and mitigate regional skills shortages. Through our community focussed programmes we seek to create a lasting legacy for communities in which our clients operate.

Biodiversity and ecology

We are able to manage the development of long term programmes of habitat creation as well as the preservation and regeneration of habitats during design, construction, operation and legacy.

Energy and emissions

We are able to manage our client’s financial and reputational risk by meeting legislation, building regulations and codes. We provide accreditation, monitoring, auditing, and maintenance and capital replacement management and more to continually reduce energy and emissions.

Water efficiency

We can help minimise demand for potable water by creating behavioural change in designers, contractors and operators, whilst seeking to apply where possible water saving technologies and reuse opportunities.

Transport and mobility

We can assist in mitigating the effects of transporting people and materials through travel plan development, working with clients to implement reduction and avoidance plans and low carbon alternatives.

Health and wellbeing

We have developed SHE online specifically to address the ongoing health and safety needs of our clients. We can help clients to actively promote and encourage the health and well being of their workforce.

Environmental: land, water, air and noise

We help clients evaluate their current environmental impact and employ mitigation or adaption methods to address the impacts of a potential rise in temperatures, draughts or flooding.

Suppliers and procurement

We can advise clients on ethical and responsible supply chain management, both to ensure control and traceability of materials as well as full understanding of suppliers sustainability performance.

Sustainable procurement

As responsible corporate practices gain momentum in the public and private sectors, many organisations are looking to add green value to traditional procurement routes. Particularly among local authorities, the regulations and pressures to meet climate change and sustainability objectives are bringing about procurement strategies that aim to develop environmentally sound services and goods. Mace provides support to public sector organisations seeking to implement a sustainable procurement strategy.

We advise clients at every stage of the procurement process, from defining the need through post-contract management. We consider all aspects of sustainability, including social and environmental impacts, waste minimisation, and energy efficiency. In helping to influence the supply chain to put greater emphasis on sustainability specifications, we assist organisations to improve quality and reduce costs while having a positive long-lasting impact.
