Renewable Energy

  • Mace was a project manager on aspects of the Moura solar power generation plant in Portugal, one of the biggest in the world.

As a signatory to the Kyoto Agreement on global warming, the UK government is committed to reduce national carbon emissions by 20% by 2020 and by 80% by 2050. A major part of its strategy to achieve this is by increasing the amount of renewable generation in the UK and a target of 15% by 2020 has been set.

Although incentive mechanisms, such as the Renewables Obligation Certificates, have been introduced to encourage large and small scale renewable generation schemes, the percentage of renewable generation is not increasing as quickly as required and a large amount of effort and investment will be required to hit the targets.

Mace has a considerable amount of experience and expertise in delivering large, complex infrastructure projects and can assist energy companies with the delivery of their renewable energy projects. Our skills include project and programme management, design management, planning, project controls and cost control, supply chain management and procurement. An efficient and innovation-driven blend of these skills is vital to the development and delivery of a post-carbon infrastructure.

Mace’s experience includes providing project and programme management on the largest solar installation in the world for Acciona Energy in Portugal and working with NAREC (National and Renewable Energy Centre) in the UK on the development of new marine energy generation technologies. Our energy team is also working with the Department of Energy and Climate Change and EDF Energy on other major generation projects in the UK.
