Carbon Capture and Storage

  • Carbon Capture and Storage offers the potential to reduce carbon emissions by up to 90%.

Fossil fuel-based energy generation, and in particular coal-fired power, still makes up a significant part of the energy generation mix, and is one of the largest contributors to carbon emissions and therefore global warming. Mace is working with the UK Government to develop new green technologies that will offset carbon emissions and help the country meet its carbon reduction commitments.

Announced in the 2009 budget, the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) demonstration project is a key government energy initiative aimed at mitigating the warming effects of carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel power stations by storing them in underground disused oil and gas fields.

Individuals from Mace have been working with the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) supporting the project and programme management of the procurement for the demonstration project and providing project planning expertise to the CCS’ project management office. Mace brings its energy expertise in green technology procurement, complex infrastructure delivery, experience of dealing with complex regulatory environments and understanding of large PFI projects to ensure the CCS can become a reality for energy supply in the UK.
