Libraries | Mace
Libraries have taken the full brunt of changes in both usage and technological requirements in the last two decades. With students demanding new and more flexible ways of working, researching, and searching, the onus has been on finding creative new environments for the storage and provision of information.
Mace has worked on many leading library projects, finding ways to help these public sector clients to create better insitutions within tight budgets. We have delivered new libraries for Brunel University, the University of East Anglia, Oxford University, and Aston University. In London we have delivered a highly commended refurbishment of the London Library’s extension.
Library projects pose many logistical and design challenges, particularly when facilities must remain part or fully open during construction works, bringing health and safety issues to the fore. Mace exemplifies the best in process and delivery under such conditions. As the Evening Standard commented of the London Library’s second stage completion: "Any architect and builder (the contractor was Mace) willing to go through such a meticulous design process and then build it in full view of the public should be applauded."
