Weedington Road | Mace
The Mace Living team is delivering a unique housing project for new developer Pocket Living. With a background in social housing and the support of a major funder, Pocket Living has been set up to provide affordable housing for key workers. This first project will be the model for a string of similar projects, and the client's team is currently securing a number of sites across London for further schemes.
Located on Weedington Road in Kentish Town, the £2.4m project comprises the demolition of a small industrial unit complex to make room for 22 key worker flats and a B1 industrial unit. Completion is scheduled for November 2008.
The project is in an environmentally sensitive area and, as part of the planning approval, the London Borough of Camden has insisted on specific sustainable issues being addressed. This, in conjunction with the requirements of the Code for Sustainable Homes, has resulted in the design incorporating innovative features including solar heating.
Post tender, we have worked with Pocket Living and the design team to value engineer the project budget by almost 10% to ensure the viability of the project.
Completion was achieved on programme in November 2008.
The scheme has recently been in the press, covered extensively in a Times Online feature by Francesca Steele:
