Veolia Water commissioned a major office rationalisation and transformation programme that involved the closure of three office sites and the relocation of more than 600 employees to a new purpose-built headquarters in Hatfield. Mace delivered a workplace based on its new ways of working programme, a £3.5m office fit out of the new headquarters, the development and implementation of a change management programme, and the successful relocation of employees into a fully operational building that was delivered on time and below budget.

Mace was involved from inception to completion, initially providing a development monitoring service and negotiating the lease agreement to include a rent-free period that incorporated £350,000 of enhancement to the base-build scheme. An integrated Mace team facilitated faster issue resolution and transfer of information, and introduced simple and streamlined processes. The client now benefits from more efficient communication between departments; improved technical support resulting in less downtime; a 30 percent reduction in energy use, and a 70 percent reduction in document storage. The introduction of shared working principles, from a 1:1 to 3:2 person to workstation ratio, delivered a 30 percent improvement in space efficiency that has contributed to lower total asset management costs.
