Sochi Winter Olympics 2014

  • Mace draws on expertise from London 2012 Olympics to help Sochi bid and deliver the 2014 Winter Olympics

The road to being selected to host a major global sporting event presents countries with major challenges. The winning city must prove its suitability on many levels from transport and venue suitabiltiy, to infrastructure and communications. Mace, along with its Russian colleagues BDO/UNICON, were appointed by the Russian Federation Olympic Bid Committee to prepare an independent deliverability report for presentation to the International Olympic Committee. The presentation was the final pitch on behalf of the Black Sea resort of Sochi to be appointed as the host city for the 22nd Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Sochi 2014 deliverability report draws on the lessons learned from Mace's work on the preparation of London's winning 2012 Olympics bid. The same team is now working alongside the Russian team to prepare the city for the Games, providing high level scheduling, phasing and logistics planning on more than 200 individual projects within two Olympic Parks (coastal and mountain), the Sochi district and the interlinking transport corridors. This strategic planning forms the basis for procuring and delivering the complex variety of venues, infrastructure, specialist operational facilities, hotels and environmental projects.
