Shawfair Park Hospital

The brief for the new Shawfair Park Hospital called for a range of private care services to complement and enhance the clinical service and medical excellence provided by Spire Murrayfield Hospital, Edinburgh. Mace was appointed to provide project management and cost consultancy services on the 4,000 square-metre facility. Spire Healthcare identified key objectives for the project, which were reflected in the selection of the procurement and contractual arrangements. The project required cost certainty, a set completion date and effective management and control of the design team all with the necessary flexibility and ability to incorporate change at any time.

As cost consultants, Mace carried out a detailed review of Spire Healthcare's priorities and objectives, taking into consideration market conditions to recommend the best course of action for the client. This helped ensure certainty in programme delivery, early contractor involvement in construction process, the potential for design changes to be retained, and continued management and control of the design team when necessary. Mace also helped with cost forecasting, as well as managing potential additional costs. As project manager, Mace managed the team and processes throughout, implementing good communication channels and ensuring the team focused effectively on risk management. Mace also ensured that environmental issues were considered at every stage of the project.
