Birmingham's Eastside gets a Mace-lift
Over the last eight years, Mace Group has been commissioned to work on nine projects within the Eastside regeneration area of Birmingham City Centre and its wider areas. Eastside is the largest regeneration project in Birmingham comprising 170 hectares, representing £6bn of investment and making a significant difference to the currently neglected areas of the city.
Mace is currently working as project manager on the joint venture between Birmingham City Council, Advantage West Midlands and Goodman International on the high profile £500m,15 acre Birmingham Eastside Locks regeneration project that is estimated to bring over 5,000 new jobs to the region. Within this appointment, Mace has been responsible for programme managing the site assembly strategy and compulsory purchase order (CPO), the appointment and management of consultants to undertake site surveys and the demolition strategy whilst also leading on risk management.
Since the commencement of the project Mace has also undertaken the development monitoring for AWM on the Jennen's Road student accommodation scheme by Watkin Jones and on the completed Matthew Boulton Outreach Centre. Client Birmingham City Council has also asked Mace to take on the role of client project manager on the delivery of its 1,000 space multi-storey car park.
The key features of the role in Eastside include stakeholder management, procurement and management of consultants, contractors and developers and promoting innovative and sustainable solutions at all stages of the process. Examples of this innovation include helping clients AWM and BCC to focus on a collaborative approach to services diversions and the incoming power supply to the area.
