Hackney Homes

Hackney Homes is a management organisation working to the Housing Improvement Plan to achieve a 2 star rating for the London Borough of Hackney. Services will be delivered to the Queensbridge and De Beauvoir, Homerton, Shoreditch, North East and Stoke Newington areas utilising staff living in the borough. Each area will be undertaken by single National Contactor.

The Decent Homes Programme schedules to upgrade all of its 23,000 stock of residences to Decent Homes standards, mainly without decanting the tenants. These homes must be wind and watertight with reasonably modernised kitchens and bathrooms. If roofs, windows and doors, brickwork, wiring, kitchens & bathrooms are in poor conditions and more than 30 years old, they will be replaced to meet decent homes standards.

From June 2006 to February 2007, Mace Sustain has been advising the internal provider and then became CDM Coordinator on behalf of Hackney Homes from February 2007 Mace Sustain is providing the CDM Coordinator services as follows:

• Compliance to the CDM Regulations to protect the project, the workforce and the client's reputation
• Robust technical review of the design and the specifications for safety
• Facilitating good communications between team members
• Advising on competency and resource of designers and suppliers
• Advising on safe and economic maintenance
• Simple, clear, robust and auditable systems to compliment theClient's existing safety management systems
• Co-ordination of element specific design risk information

In addition Mace Sustain provides added value service in the following forms:

• CDM Compliance Service, inclusive of site visits and reports to the Area PM on the Compliance of the Constructor (Principal Contractor), vis-à-vis Construction Phase Plan, method statements, displaying F10 etc.
• Periodical meetings with the 5 area PMs to review and monitor the CDM processes
• Traffic light reports to the Director to highlight areas requiring prioritising and plans of work.
