Designed for Life Building for Wales Framework | Mace
Mace was appointed to the Welsh Health Estates Framework in 2006. The appointment covers a project portfolio worth more than £5m and will run for up to six years. Designed for Life aims to improve how health care facilities of every type are designed and delivered for the use of current and future generations. Mace Group handles its work on the framework from its offices in Cardiff and Manchester.
The aim of the National Assembly for Wales is that all projects procured and delivered via the framework will exceed current best practice. Mace has been appointed to a number of projects on the framework including:
Bronglais and Bangor Hospitals
Mace has been appointed by Hywel Dda Health Board at both Bangor and Bronglais Hospitals to provide project management services for the replacement of the copper pipe and electrical infrastructure alongside an update of the facilities. Works include the improvement of ward areas, modernisation of building fabric and the reduction of energy consequences. For both projects all works will be carried out in a live hospital environment taking into account the requirements of WHC (2006) 057 Hospital Isolation Facilities. At Bronglais, the commission is to provide a new Accident and Emergency unit, a new suite of operating theatres and car parking provision in order to better meet the needs of the local community.
Newport Local General Hospital
Mace has been working with Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust on their Clinical Futures strategy: a redesign and reconfiguration of the region’s healthcare set up to meet current and future health needs. Due for completion in 2014 the Mace role is to project manage the strategic and implementation phases of the £200m project, Mace will manage the project from outline business case through to project completion and client operation.
North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre
Mace is providing project management services for the provision of additional facilities at the NWCTC at Glan Clwyd Hospital. Project 1A is the first phase of works within a wider scheme of redevelopment at the hospital. This is one of three projects for the NWCTC Internal Capacity Programme. It seeks to address current and ongoing capacity issues for radiotherapy treatment within the NWCTC as well as plan for future service changes and developments.
Wrexham Maelor Hospital
Mace has been apppointed to provide project management services for the development of a mental health campus on the hospital site. The project will include a new 44 bed adult mental health in-patient unit, replacement of the existing carpark and the provision of temporary accomodation for patients.
The full business case for this project was approved by the Welsh Assembly in June 2008. The successful completion of the project will allow for the integration of mental health services creating a more therapeutic environment for patients and opportunities to improve working practices.
