Mace Retail Ulster Bank team highly commended in 2009 RIAI Irish Architecture Awards | Mace
Mace Retail project Ulster Bank O'Connell Street in Dublin was highly commended in the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) award in the Conservation and Heritage category.
Mace Retail has been working alongside the Royal bank of Scotland and Ulster Bank on its branch improvement and maintenance improvement programme, which culminated in the major refurbishment of its flagship O'Connell Street branch in Dublin.
Aside from the internal refurbishment works that included the introduction of the new brand and modern facilities, the over-arching objective to was accurately reproduce the building façade, maintaining as many of the original features as possible. This included using old photographs to establish the original façade and works to reveal parts of the original shop front, sills and other stone details. Repair works were carried out to the upper facade, windows and sashes and finally the building was fully cleaned and enhanced by external feature lighting.
Branch Manager, Paul Wright said: "This was an extremely difficult job, handled with care and respect by all. The finished product is astonishing and extremely impressive."
