One year after the successful launch of ‘Safety first. Second nature.’ Mace’s health and safety campaign is going global, focused on integrating a consistent culture and approach across all our projects, worldwide, and help realise our goal to become world-leading in health and safety by 2015.
With the official ‘Safety first. Second nature’ international programme poised for roll out in the next few months key projects and international offices have already picked up their own momentum incorporating the principles of the campaign – standards, work environment, leadership, engagement and behaviour – to project programmes and new business submissions, identifying the initiative as a clear differentiator to Mace clients.
Projects in the Middle East, central Asia, south east Asia and Europe - including New Doha International Airport, Qatar; Port Baku Residence, Azerbaijan, Al Bahr Towers, Abu Dhabi and Plavi Horzonti, Montenegro - have all started to use the communication tools, training and shared best practice to help influence and improve their team and project performance. The Montenegro team also initiated a tour of Mace’s UK projects attended by Milorad Giljaca, Health and Safety Manager, in order to, first hand, understand UK standards and policies and how to effectively use the ‘Safety first. Second nature.’ campaign to influence behaviours on site; transferring best practice to the implementation plan for Plavi Horzonti.
“The contact with projects in the UK as part of the health and safety tour was an invaluable experience, helping me to effectively introduce Mace standards in Montenegro where the legal and cultural benchmark expectations are not as developed,” said Milorad Giljaca. “And it has without doubt increased my own professional skills so that I can effectively create a project improvement programme as part of our commitment ‘Safety first. Second nature.’.
