Mace welcomes David Philp as Head of BIM Implementation

  • Mace appoints David Philp as Head of Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Mace has appointed David Philp as Head of Building Information Modelling (BIM) to further develop our design strategy and integrated BIM service.

David is Head of BIM Implementation for the UK Government’s Cabinet Office where he is responsible for the mobilisation and implementation of Level Two BIM across central government’s property portfolio, by 2016. He will continue in this role alongside his new position at Mace.

With an official start of 28 January 2013, David brings significant industry success that will accelerate Mace’s offering in the growing field of BIM, both within the UK and overseas. Mace already implements the BIM approach through the property lifecycle, from concept, design, detail design, construction and post completion across more than 30 percent of projects. This brings benefits including precise accurate modelling and the improvement of predictability, through to running buildings more efficiently.

Mace now has a three year plan to ensure that the BIM approach is implemented on 50 percent of projects. David will further drive the progress of the company’s vision and BIM objectives and implement activity processes and procedures. His focus will be to develop BIM’s role across the entire property lifecycle.

David also chairs a series of working groups such as the BIM 2050 Group and BIM for SMEs, and is a professor at Glasgow Caledonian University’s School of Engineering and the Built Environment.

David said, “Mace has a reputation for innovation and has the opportunity to be a leader in BIM. The company has a very strong purpose and vision for what it wants to achieve and how it wants to integrate BIM at all stages of the property lifecycle. This is an exciting move for me.”

Phil Brown, director for preconstruction, engineering and design, at Mace, said: “We are delighted to have David on board; he is a leader in BIM integration and his ideas align with what we want to achieve. I look forward to working with him to develop the BIM service within Mace and deliver innovative integrated solutions for our clients.”
