Health and safety experts from Turkey and the Netherlands have visited London's Shard tower to learn from Mace about best practice occupational health and safety.

Mace – which is building the Shard, now Europe's tallest building – is an industry leader in health and safety management, and values sharing its best practice approach.

Sarah Hamilton, from the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, organised the international delegation and spoke about why the Shard visit formed part of the delegates three-day visit.

"Mace, the construction company building the Shard, has an excellent health and safety track record. Their dedication to excellent health and safety offers the construction industry a flagship example of how a site should be managed," she said.

Works on the Shard began in March 2009 and when completed, the building will include nearly 600,000 square feet of office space, apartments, restaurants, a hotel and 360-degree viewing gallery.
