Mace project director, Alistair Mackintosh commented: "We're providing project management and technical supervision on this iconic development. And we've made sure that each stage of the development has been achieved on time for the start of each summer season."
2011 has seen the addition of two new luxury residential apartments Zeta and Ozana (the names are taken from the regional history and geography – Zeta province of medieval Montenegro and Ozana was proclaimed as a saint protector of nearby UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) listed town Kotor. Transportation links, including roads and parking have been completed to support the improved operational area.
The Lido Mar 65 meter outdoor swimming pool, designed by architect Richard Hywel Evans has been finished, along with restaurant clubhouse and several berthing pontoons. With its official opening in July, the Lido Mar pool has already been host to weddings and exclusive birthday parties; it is quick becoming the scene of some memorable occasions that will create a significant history for such a young destination.
The last two years have seen the delivery of jetties one to four as well as the quay wall with supporting pontoons (totalling 185 berths). Another luxury residential apartment 'Teuta' (named after Queen Teuta who was an Illyrian queen of the Ardiaean Kingdom) completed, and also a vacuum sewage system, stormwater drainage system, a 900,000 litre fuel store, supply bunker, and a heavy duty mooring system for the mooring of super yachts (up to 100m in length).
Project plans for the next year are for two more luxury residential apartments Milena and Tara (Milena named after the Queen of Montenegro and Tara named after the river that runs through Montenegro) with areas for retail space. Work is already in progress and the aim is to have this delivered by summer 2012.
The following year will also see construction works advancing on the new boutique 5-star hotel and ship maintenance facility across the bay at Bijela shipyard.
There will also be a new casino and 18-hole golf course, with work due to start in the autumn. This is named after José María 'Olazábal' Manterola - a Spanish golfer who has enjoyed success on both the European Tour and the Professional Golfers' Association Tour (PGA), and has won two major championships.
