Livity School tops out | Mace
Mace has celebrated the topping out of the new Livity School in Lambeth.
Livity School is a special needs primary school for 80 children with autistic spectrum disorders and profound and multiple learning difficulties. Mace is working as employer’s agent on the new £8.4m state-of-the-art facility which has been relocated from its current site in Mandrell Road, Brixton, to the new location in Adare Walk, Streatham.
The new building will give the Livity school flexibility to cope with the changing needs of its pupils and provide improved facilities for children, parents, and staff. It will include specialist features for the children such as a hydrotherapy pool, a sensory room and trails and a glass scenic lift.
Head teacher Geraldine Lee, was joined by representatives from the board of governors to see the progress and celebrate the topping out of the new building, a major milestone in the stages of work.
Geraldine said: “This new school is such a fantastic opportunity for this really important group of children with severe complex needs and their families in the borough of Lambeth. It is going to provide state of the art specialist learning and I am delighted with the innovative design which incorporates the very best of our philosophy and concepts."
Works started on site June 2011 and is due to complete August 2012.
Senior project manager, Rosemary Tinker said: "It is really exciting to be part of such an important scheme. The existing special education needs facilities for Lambeth’s primary school children have been far from ideal. Seeing this project progressing towards completion to deliver what will be a really excellent environment is really good to see, and be part of."
